Aakaanksh Autade, known as @kaansanity on TikTok, shared a trick to tell if your Apple phone is new or used. This code, hidden in the settings of your device, it can reveal things about the device. Tech genius Aakaanksh shared the advice in a video that has amassed 12.1 million views and is approaching 1 million likes.
“Check this out before you buy a new iPhone. Open “Settings” and tap “About” and then look at the start of the model number. If it starts with M stands for “New” and F stands for “Refurbished”.
He added that if he has the lyrics P as the first letter in the code, stands for Custom, while the letter N stands for Replacement.
The TikTok star continued: ‘The letters at the end tell you where the phone was supposed to be sold. Share this with your friends so they don’t fool you.’ According to the creator, LL stands for USA, CH stands for China, C stands for Canada, and F stands for it was meant to be sold in France. Other codes include JP, which stands for Japan, PY, which stands for Spain. and the letter B represents the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Refurbished phones aren’t necessarily bad though, as companies like Apple often puts the product through extensive testing to ensure that the customer gets a reliable device.
On its website, Apple says: “Every Apple Certified Refurbished product completes a rigorous refurbishment process that includes full functional testing, with special savings of up to 15 percent.” Refurbished iOS devices will come with a new battery and outer casing.
