It was blocked by Drew Harwell of the Washington Post, Aaron Rupar of the Independent, Ryan Mac of the New York Times and Donie O’Sullivan of CNN. Elon Musk commented that the rules on doxing apply to everyone – including journalists.

In a separate post, he explained that accounts “involved in doxing” are suspended for seven days. “Criticizing me all day is perfectly fine, but doxxing my real-time location and putting my family at risk is not anymore,” he wrote.

The Twitter owner has also created a poll asking users if they should immediately unblock accounts that have been suspended for doxing, or if the “punishment” should last for 7 days. More than 3 million users took part in the survey published on Friday morning, Polish time. Almost 59 percent people voted for Elon Musk to lift the ban immediately.

Vice-President Vera Jourova addressed the recent events on Twitter and threatened sanctions. “Reports of arbitrary suspensions of journalists on Twitter are worrying. The EU Digital Services Act requires respect for media freedom and fundamental rights. The European Media Freedom Act confirms this. Elon Musk should be aware of this. There are limits. And sanctions, coming soon,” the post reads.

Elon Musk has apparently changed his mind about freedom of speech. At the beginning of November 2022, he declared that he would not block the ElonJet profile. He said that in this way he wanted to engage in freedom of speech on the Internet. However, earlier he tried to bribe the creator of the account to delete the profile. Jack Sweeney, however, refused.

“My commitment to free speech extends even to not blocking my plane’s follower account, even though doing so poses a direct threat to personal safety,” he wrote at the time.
