Hankyung: Samsung decided not to save on the production of smartphones in order to compete with Apple
Samsung has changed the strategy of development and production of smartphones. This is reported by the Korean edition of Hankyung.
According to media sources, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Han Jong Hee held a meeting with representatives of the Device Experience division. During a discussion on the development of the mobile division, a top manager told employees to “think about ways to increase the competitiveness of smartphones without focusing on reducing costs.” The transition to a new strategy will take place, including for the sake of competition with Apple.
According to Han Jong-hee, Samsung should stop looking for ways to save on smartphone development, as “even Chinese companies that are lagging behind in the market can easily reduce costs.” In this regard, a top manager of the corporation noted that the company decided to stop developing phones “with an inconsistent design and a useless set of functions.”
The journalists noted that the concern of Samsung executives is related to Apple’s strong position in the premium smartphone segment. According to Counterpoint Research, the share of the American company in the market of premium gadgets in the third quarter was 57 percent, Samsung – only 19 percent.
In July, The Elec sources found out that Samsung would stop equipping affordable phones with an additional camera in order to save money. In particular, the company intends to simplify the devices of the Galaxy A series.
