Bloomberg: Spy victims sue Apple over AirTag beacon
Smart tag AirTag has become the cause of litigation against Apple. It is reported by Bloomberg.
As it became known to the journalists of the agency, Apple was sued by women who claim that their ill-wishers used the American company’s device for surveillance. According to one of the women, a former partner placed an AirTag under the hood of her car to track her movements.
A second spy victim said her ex was following her with an Apple smart tag hidden in her child’s backpack. The lawsuit document states that the device for tracking lost items has already caused the murder. So, AirTag was allegedly used by a young man from the city of Akron to track down and shoot his girlfriend. In another case, an Indianapolis woman hid a beacon in her ex-boyfriend’s car and then tracked him down and hit him with her car.
“Despite the fact that Apple has built protections into the AirTag product, they are extremely inadequate and do little to nothing to warn people in a timely manner if they are being tracked,” representatives of the victims said. Women who complained about Apple demanded monetary compensation from the American company, the amount of which was not disclosed.
In April, US police discovered that Apple’s AirTag smart beacon was being used more frequently to spy on women. In other cases, the tag has been used to steal cars and other valuable property.
