Cyber expert Stepanov: scammers intercept calls and SMS using a fake station

Valery Stepanov, head of the T1 Information Security Competence Center of Integration, in an interview with the Prime agency, revealed a new scheme of scammers to intercept calls and SMS.

According to Stepanov, there are several ways to access phone calls and SMS messages. In particular, wiretapping the phone by intercepting and decoding GSM traffic, which requires several tools to scan and decrypt.

In addition, attackers can interfere with the operation of the GSM network through a fake base station – this is used quite often. The cyberexpert stressed that scammers rarely exploit the vulnerability of the SS7 protocol, which operators can access. Stepanov advised using two-factor authentication.

Earlier, the CEO of the Telecom Daily agency, Denis Kuskov, named a way to speed up the smartphone. According to Kuskov, it is worth “getting rid of the garbage” stored in the device’s memory – removing unnecessary programs and materials so that applications open quickly.
