Swiss robotics student Ken Pillonel has launched “the world’s first USB-C iPhone”. The enthusiast announced this in his blog on YouTube.
The enthusiast said that the Apple smartphone he created with a USB-C port is unique and, apparently, the first such device in the world. In the video, the engineer told how a month ago he managed to replace the standard Lightning connector in the iPhone X with a USB-C port. In the video, the author clarified that he was able to copy the proprietary smartphone board responsible for data transfer and integrate a new connector into the device.
The student spoke about the decision to auction the device on eBay. The starting price of the device with USB-C was one dollar and in two days rose to several thousand dollars. At the time of this writing, the user who made the last bid offered $ 4,950 for the device.
Ken Pillonel also noted that the method of installing a unique connector in an Apple smartphone was described by him and is freely available. In this regard, anyone with engineering skills can replace the standard iPhone interface.
Apple has been releasing smartphones with a Lightning connector since 2012. In May 2020, it became known that engineers were testing a prototype iPhone with USB-C, but the company refused to implement it.
