With the use of artificial intelligence, the South African billionaire showed the prototype of a humanoid robot with much more realistic dimensions and size, although different from the concept he has been talking about in recent years.
From the presentation, made at an event on artificial intelligence at the Tesla offices in Palo Alto (California, USA), it was learned that the robot is capable of watering plants, transporting boxes and moving metal bars.
He can perform these activities thanks to machine learning software and sensors developed by the Tesla electric vehicle company that he runs as CEO.
When it goes on sale, the price of this robot – dubbed “Optimus” – will probably be less than $20,000, said the billionaire, known worldwide for his eccentricities.
“Optimus” has a 2.3 KWh battery and connectivity to Wi-Fi and LTE networks.
The prototype presented has a weight of 73 kilos, against the 56 of the original concept. In addition, you will have a total of more than 200 degrees of movement throughout the body and 27 of these will be located in the hands.
Musk hinted last year that Tesla was developing a humanoid robot to do “dangerous” jobs that people don’t want to do, and indicated that the project would have profound economic implications.
According to Musk, the purpose of Optimus will be to use them for domestic tasks in homes, but also for caring for the elderly, as well as performing repetitive, boring and dangerous tasks for humans.
Optimus is powered by the same Autopilot system found in Tesla vehicles to help it navigate its environment and recognize objects.
Since 2016, the US National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched at least 30 investigations into Tesla vehicle accidents.
US federal authorities are investigating several Tesla car accidents with emergency vehicles that were providing assistance in previous accidents.
In the past, Musk has stated that “you won’t need to drive most of the time unless you want to” thanks to improvements the system is undergoing. (YO)
