MacRumors: Apple has agreed to pay $50 million to owners of troubled Macs

Apple has agreed to pay compensation to owners of MacBooks with a problematic keyboard. This is reported by MacRumors.

The American corporation will pay 50 million dollars (about three billion rubles) to owners of Mac computers from the USA. In 2018, users filed a class-action lawsuit alleging that Apple was aware of a critical flaw in the MacBook keyboard, but did not stop sales of laptops. The plaintiffs alleged that Apple concealed the presence of the defect from consumers.

The agreement covers MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops released in 2015 and 2016. The devices had a butterfly keyboard, which in practice proved to be prone to sticking and breaking. Previously, the corporation agreed to repair the keyboard for free, but many consumers turned again due to new breakdowns.

It is clarified that the lawsuit was filed by Apple consumers from California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Washington. The lawyers accompanying the trial will receive $13.6 million, $2 million will be paid in court costs, and $1.4 million in administrative expenses. Mac owners will get the rest.

In November 2020, Apple reached an agreement in a legal dispute over allegations of intentionally slowing down iPhone performance. The company has agreed to provide $113 million to fix the problem of slow smartphones.
