Google has announced this Thursday that on January 18 it will close its video game service in the cloud Stadiaafter it did not get the number of users and the “expected traction” that the firm expected.

In a blog post of the firm, the director of the service and vice president of the company, Phil Harrison, has explained that Google will return the money invested in games and controls of the firm through the Stadia store in mid-January.

The service was launched in closed beta in December 2018 and allows you to play video games without a ‘hardware’, such as a console, to support it, since the service is provided in the cloud, an approach that other firms such as Microsoft through its Game Pass.

The firm has highlighted in its statement that the technology developed for the service will be reused in fields such as augmented reality, YouTube or Google Play.

The service had been falling for months in users and dedicated projects and in August Google had to deny its closure.
