The FBI and MI5 jointly warn against China. The first such appearance. Beijing protests

Ken McCallum, head of the British Security Service (MI5) and Christopher Wray, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) met in London to discuss the economic and national security of the United Kingdom and the United States.

MI5 and the FBI are critical of China

Both gentlemen recalled the growing threat from the Chinese government which, Wray said, “is trying to shape the world by interfering with our policies and those of our allies.” The head of the FBI also stated that China “directly interfered in the elections to Congress in New York this year” –

The head of British counterintelligence admitted that MI5 “more than doubled its efforts to counter Chinese activity.” He added that the British are now conducting seven times more investigations into Chinese espionage activity than there were in 2018.

McCallum emphasized that China “represents the greatest long-term threat” to the US, Britain and their allies in Europe and beyond.

FBI Chief: Geared to stealing technology

Christopher Wray also addressed businessmen and heads of private companies, warning them about the actions of the Middle Kingdom. Beijing’s spy hacker program is today “larger than all other countries combined”, he said. According to him, the Chinese are “tech-stealing” and the Chinese government “poses a greater threat to Western companies than many businessmen believe.”

Ken McCallum reported that the United Kingdom shared its intelligence information with 37 allied countries, helping them defend themselves against Chinese cyber espionage. The British were also supposed to thwart in May this year. “A sophisticated threat targeting critical aviation companies,” adds Reuters.

Wray also admitted that an attempt by China to forcibly conquer Taiwan would be “one of the most terrifying business disruptions the world has ever seen.” The Chinese of the mainland consider this republic part of their territory, and it is from Taiwan that many large technology companies come.

China: The allegations are completely unfounded

The service heads of both countries said the West was wrong about China. – The assumption that the growing prosperity in this country and economic ties with the West would lead to greater political freedom over time was wrong – said the head of MI5.

Beijing completely disagrees with the statements made at the conference. “The allegations against China by US and UK intelligence officials are completely unfounded,” a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London thundered. The spokesman said the examples cited by the FBI and MI5 were tricky, and called on Britain and the US to “abandon the Cold War mentality.”
