NYT: Apple finally ends collaboration with chief designer Johnny Ive
Former Apple lead designer Johnny Ive, who has worked with the company as a consultant since 2019, has ended his partnership with the firm. It is reported by The New York Times.
The final termination of employment with Ive was reported by two NYT sources at the company. In recent weeks, Apple was supposed to conclude a new contract with the designer, but the parties decided not to renew it. A spokesman for Johnny Quince and Apple declined to comment on the incident.
When Ive left Apple in 2019, where he had been chief designer since 1992, Ive founded his own firm, LoveFrom, and continued to consult with the American tech giant. It is specified that the Tim Cook Corporation signed an agreement with LoveFrom worth more than $100 million, the parties were counting on long-term cooperation.
According to sources, Quince left Apple in 2019, including disagreement with Tim Cook on many issues. Also, the contract concluded after leaving the corporation did not allow LoveFrom to cooperate with certain companies if Apple was against it.
Apple Design Director Jony Ive officially left the company in November 2019. After the news of Quince’s departure, Apple’s capitalization decreased by $9 billion.
