Johan Mina expects Werder Bremen to loan him out to Ecuadorian football

During the vacation period that he enjoys in his native Guayaquil, the young central midfielder Johan Mina revealed that he has polls for Ecuadorian teams, but nothing concrete.

Mina, 20, told in an interview with sports radio The witch that the club that owns his pass, Werder Bremen from Germany, could loan him out for the 2022-2023 European season, which will begin next August as it is a year in which the FIFA World Cup is played on an atypical date : from November to December.

“So far nothing has been said, he is looking for a team because I think I am going to go out on loan this season (2022-23)”, he commented about his future.

Mina headed to the Old Continent in August 2020 signed by the German institution.

At just 18 years old and without having made his debut with Emelec in the Ecuadorian soccer series A, he signed a contract to join Werder Bremen’s under-23 team.

But his incorporation into the club’s discipline was not easy, he said, and in August 2021 he was transferred to Estoril Praia de Portugal.

“I arrived and he did not train as often due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There was no U-23 tournament, and later when there was I couldn’t play because the European Union didn’t accept foreigners. That happened after signing (the contract). I spent the whole year training until I was able to go to Estoril, there I already had more competition”, he indicated.

“They made me play left back and lane, all on the left side. They hardly play with 10, that’s why it was difficult for me to find a position”.

With the youth national team, I stepped on the area a lot “because of the alignment issue, they played with double 9, I went back more because of habit. I feel more comfortable coming from behind, as a midfielder”.

And he adds that at Estoril he did not have the opportunity to play as a striker and admits that “it was difficult” for me to play as a winger, because of “the speed, the back and forth, all of that cost me”.

In his first campaign in Europe he had no activity with Werder Bremen II in the Regionalliga Nord (German fourth division) during the 2020-2021 campaign. With Estoril in the 2021-2022 season of the Revelation League he played ten games, totaling 298 minutes, and was crowned champion of the under-23 category last April.

The player from Guayaquil hopes to know Werder Bremen’s decision soon. His future would be known on July 1. Mina was open to playing in Ecuador, in the United States, where he can earn minutes and there is high competition.

They asked him if he would like to stay in Ecuadorian soccer. Mina replied: “I think it’s the most convenient thing now, to play, and if it’s here, much better.”
