Uzbek gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, who also played for the USSR national team, explained the decision to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by RT.

“I myself asked myself the question: why should I finish with the sport, if I really don’t want to? Moreover, I still feel strength in myself and even some unfulfillment, ”the 46-year-old athlete shared. She said that she quickly regretted announcing her retirement.

On May 10, Chusovitina announced that she had begun preparations for participating in the 2024 Games, which will be the ninth in her career. At the time of the start of the competition, the gymnast will turn 49 years old.

Chusovitina has been performing at the professional level since 1990. She made history as the only gymnast to have participated in eight Olympic Games (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020). At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, ​​the athlete as part of the Unified Team won the gold medal in the team competition. At the 2008 Games in Beijing, Chusovitina, representing Germany, became the silver medalist in the vault.
