Zagitova will hold an exhibition boxing match with Olympic champion Albert Batyrgaziev
The 2018 Olympic champion in figure skating Alina Zagitova will hold an exhibition boxing match with Albert Batyrgaziev. This became known to RIA Novosti.
The rival of the 20-year-old athlete is the 2020 Olympic boxing champion in the weight category up to 57 kilograms. The fight will take place on June 25 at Luzhniki.
Zagitova announced the fight on June 20. She posted on social media wearing boxing gloves and writing, “Getting ready for something new.”
After that, the skater was criticized. Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina described Zagitova’s decision with the phrase “as if they were off the chain,” and boxer Grigory Drozd urged her to leave men’s business to men.
Zagitova suspended her sports career in December 2019. The figure skater focused on the work of the host in the Ice Age project, as well as on performances in ice shows. Zagitova is an Olympic champion and silver medalist of the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. Also on her account are the gold medals of the World Championship, Europe and the Grand Prix final.
