Patrick Vieira, coach of Crystal Palace, kicked an Everton fan who had provoked him after the invasion of the field with the victory of the ‘Toffees’, which guaranteed the team’s permanence in the first division of the Premier League.
Several videos posted on social media show the former French midfielder heading out of the field amid the chaos, and among Everton fans, who were celebrating the 3-2 victory, coming back.
Taunted by a youth, Vieira turns around and kicks him in the legs, knocking him to the ground. Then the coach is pushed by other fans, who accompanied him until he left the pitch.
“We are investigating an altercation that took place at Goodison Park in the game between Everton and Crystal Palace on Thursday 19 May,” Merseyside Police said in a statement.
“We worked with Everton to gather all available security camera footage and spoke to witnesses,” the statement added.
According to police, so far no formal complaints have been filed. Vieira, in turn, declined to comment on the incident.
