Euskaraz irakurri: Anton Arieta hil da, Athleticeko aurrelari mitikoa
The historic center forward of Athletic Anton Arieta, Arieta IIhas died in the last few hours, as reported this Saturday by the Bilbao club, in which the Durango striker played 10 seasons.
Arieta II, who has died at the age of 76, played a total of 358 games officials in his ten seasons as ‘lion’ and marked 83 goals. He finished his career at Hércules, for which he signed in 1974.
With the red and white shirt he won two Cup titles, those of 1969 and 1973, in which he scored in the two finals against Elche and Castellón, respectively. He formed one of the most remembered strikers of the Biscayan team, along with Argoitia, Uriarte, Clemente and Rojo I.
The Athletic Club players will wear a black armband in memory of Arieta II in this Saturday’s league match against Valencia at San Mamés, in which a minute’s silence will also be observed in his memory.
