“It is necessary to forget the result of the first leg”, says Klopp before reviewing Villarreal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made it clear on Monday that his team is not looking to settle for the Champions League semi-final return game against Villarreal. In the first match, played in England, the home team won 2-0.

“We’re at rest. You have to forget the result of the trip,” Klopp said during a press conference, denying that everything is decided.

“We have to go there, knowing that we have to give it our all. It will be difficult, it’s normal, it’s a Champions League semi-final, we never expected it to be easy,” said the German coach.

“We played very well in the first leg and we will have to do well there too,” added the Liverpool manager.

“This semi-final is the most important match for us, it doesn’t matter what happened in the last few weeks or what might happen in the following weeks”, assured Klopp.

With five victories as a visitor, the English team is undefeated away from home in this edition of the Champions League and wants to continue with its sequence.

“We don’t win these games by accident, defending behind and waiting to break out on the counterattacks. We try to play like we always do and that’s what we should do again,” said Klopp.

“We have to be prepared to suffer and there are times when it will be necessary to defend, for sure, but it will not be our main way of playing,” he explained.

Villareal, meanwhile, lost just one of the five games they played at home in the Champions League this season. In the last game as home team in the competition, the Spanish team beat Bayern Munich.

“Tomorrow, we will need everything we are. We will have to play a very high level match, because they will chase, they will exert more intense pressure than what we allowed in the first leg”, anticipated the German coach of the English team.

“I am quite convinced that Unai (Emery) will make some small adjustments to adapt to our style in a short time. So it will be interesting,” he concluded.
