THE Manchester United will have at least six absences for the match against Chelsea this Thursday. Among the absences, the coach Ralf Rangnick confirmed that the Brazilian Fred, away from the pitch for three games, will not enter the field.
The midfielder, who is recovering from a hip injury, is “unfortunately not yet available”. The coach explained the situation: “After training I had a long conversation with him, who told me that he still doesn’t feel fully fit”.
“With a player like Fred, who is always committed to giving his best, I don’t think it makes sense, with the muscle injury he had, to select him too soon. That would mean we would risk another injury, which we don’t want to do.”
The German commander also pointed out that defender Harry Maguire and striker Jadon Sancho will not play against Chelsea. They are joined by three other athletes: left-back Luke Shaw, midfielder Paul Pogba and striker Edinson Cavani.
“[Maguire] He has some knee problems, but nothing major. He hasn’t been training, either yesterday or today. Jadon is sick: he has tonsillitis since yesterday, he couldn’t train today and he won’t be available tomorrow either,” Rangnick declared.
Finally, right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has an undisclosed problem and is a doubt for the match at Old Trafford. Due to the multiple absences, Rangnick also stated that it is “possible” that he will give a chance to some youngsters from the base: “It must be at the right time. They need to be given the opportunity to play well, so it’s not just putting them in a game.”
Manchester United are 6th in the English Premier League and has 54 points – eleven less than Chelsea, who still need to take the field twice more. The early match between the teams will take place this Thursday, at 15:45 (Brasília time), and will be valid for the 37th round of the Premier League.
