Roberto Cazzaniga’s love story is already known all over Italy. The 43-year-old played volleyball in 2006-2011, but did not win many international trophies. In 2009, he only won the gold of the Mediterranean Games.
At the same time, he met a woman who introduced herself as the Brazilian model Maya Mancini. He met her remotely, because they had never met live. The relationship, however, became very deep and important to Cazzaniga. In addition, he had a friend next to him who confirmed the model’s identity. From the beginning, women were concerned with fraud and extorting money. They went very smoothly as Maya Mancini regularly asked for financial support. She explained it in various ways, such as problems with the health of family members. It was calculated that Cazzanigi made a total of 1,400 transactions, including bank transfers and mobile top-ups. Last year alone, Mancini received seven thousand euros from him. Cash transfers averaged between EUR 300 and even three thousand. Maya Mancini “proved” her identity with the numerous photos she sent to the volleyball player. They were photos of a real Brazilian model named Alessandra Ambrosio. Investigators found that the woman even showed Cazzanigi ID.
The case was dealt with by Guardia di Finanza, a specialized Italian subordinate to the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Rome. Officers quickly determined the true identities of the model and her accomplice. It turned out that both are from Italy: one from Monza and the other from Cagliari. However, it was not possible to recover even most of the funds transferred by the 43-year-old. In total, about 74 thousand people returned to him. euro.
