UFC offers Leon Edwards to give way to Conor McGregor fight with champion Kamaru Usman
Expert Chael Sonnen said that the leadership of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) suggested that Briton Leon Edwards refuse to fight with Kamaru Usman. It is reported by Bloody Elbow.
According to Sonnen, the UFC asked Edwards to let Conor McGregor return to the octagon and fight the reigning welterweight champion. He stressed that the organization did not want to spoil relations with the British fighter. For this reason, the UFC refused to unilaterally cancel his fight and decided to negotiate with Edwards. Sonnen stated that such a scenario was unlikely.
On April 7, McGregor announced that he had decided to compete in the welterweight division. Usman defended the title five times in this division.
McGregor was defeated by TKO in his third fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. At the end of the first round, he broke his leg. The Irishman is a former UFC champion in two weight divisions. He competed in the lightweight and featherweight divisions.
