MLS chooses Inter Miami’s Leonardo Campana as player of the week

Ecuadorian attacker Leonardo Campana, of Inter Miami CF, was chosen Major League Soccer (MLS) player of the week after scoring a hat-trick that marked the South Florida team’s first win of the season.

Campana’s election follows the triumph last Saturday of the team led by the Englishman Phil Neville against the New England Revolution (3-2), for the sixth round of the competition, which was his first victory after four losses and one draw.

This victory achieved in the 88th minute, after a goal by the 21-year-old Ecuadorian striker, allows Inter Miami to be just four points away from the play offthe minimum goal this year for the team owned by Englishman David Beckham and brothers Jorge and José Mas.

Campana, who in Saturday’s match started due to the loss of the Argentine Gonzalo Higuaín and signed the first hat trick in his Inter Miami history, he was also included in the “eleven of the week” of the American professional league.

The South Florida team, which is playing its third season in MLS, will visit the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field on Saturday, in its first game against this West Coast team. (D)
