Jaume Munar, Rafael Nadal’s pupil, is excited about the title of the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil | Other Sports | sports

Rafa sponsored him tennis several years ago and the bond continues to this day.

This 2021 he reached four finals, one of those in the ATP 250 in Marbella, results that have restored the confidence of the Spanish Jaume Munar (75 ATP), who arrived in Guayaquil with the desire and enthusiasm of taking the title of the Challenger City of Guayaquil that runs until Sunday, November 7 at the Guayaquil Tennis Club Annex (Samborondón).

“I had a very good first part of the year, the second half has been a little more complicated, but I arrived in Guayaquil well after having taken a few weeks off in Europe, having trained well, prepared and with enthusiasm and dreaming of doing a great week. I think the preparation is being suitable and let’s see, from here, how the competition progresses, ”said 24-year-old Munar.

Last year he reached the quarterfinals in Guayaquil and on Tuesday he will face Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in the first round, whom he said will be a tough opponent. “I think it has proven this year that the Challenger circuit is tighter than ever. Alejandro is a tough, left-handed player who has very good shots and this year he has shown, on several occasions, that he is at a great level, but I think that everything also happens because of how I am, I think it is a moment where I have to look my way to do, more than in who I have ahead. ”.

Munar is originally from the island of Mallorca, the same place as Rafael Nadal, who sponsored him tennis several years ago and whose bond continues to this day.

“I have spoken with him (Rafa Nadal) at the Academy. He is in a process of recovery to be ready for the 2022 season. I have always had time to share things with him and to talk about tennis and other things which, in the end, is a unique experience and I am very lucky to have him by my side and he is a pleasure that you help me in what you can ”, said Jaume.

The Spanish tennis player registers six Challengers titles, in addition to the final of the ATP 250 in Marbella. The year 2019 reached its best ranking ranking 52nd in the world and in his track record he has victories over Frances Tiafoe, Fabio Fognini, Richard Gasquet, Benoit Paire, Marco Cecchinato, Cameron Norrie, Alexander Zverev, David Ferrer, Andrey Rublev.
