Olympique beat Clermont to climb the Ligue 1 leaderboard

With Gerson among the starters, Olympique controlled Clermont and left the Stade Gabriel Montpied with a 1-0 victory this Sunday.

The result takes Olympique Marseille to 22 points, in third place in the French Championship. Clermont follows in 15th place with 13 points.

Even with more possession of the ball, Olympique saw Clermont reach their goal more often and try shots during the first half. After calming the opponent down a bit, Cengiz Under managed to open the scoring for the visitors, who held the advantage until halftime.

The match was more controlled in the second half and the visitors knew how to take Clermont without taking too much danger. Olympique’s midfield stood out from the opponent and managed to create the best opportunities.

Olympique Marseille return to the field for Ligue 1 next Sunday, when they host Metz at the Stade Vélodrome at 9 am (GMT). On the same day, Clermont visits Saint Étienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard at 11 am.
