Burnley beat Southampton this Thursday, 2-0, with goals from Roberts and Collins, playing at home, but did not leave the English Premier League.
Despite this, the team reached 28 points in 18th place and glued to Everton – the first team outside the relegation zone – which has 29 and a game less. Southampton, on the other hand, remains in 13th position, with 39 points, without aiming for great things this season.
Needing the result, Burnley took the initiative and opened the scoring early. At 11, the side Roberts received a good pass, pulled to the left and hit with class in the right corner of the opponent’s goal to score.
A short time later, the home team had another good opportunity, in a low shot by McNeil, which forced a great save by goalkeeper Forster. However, in the 44th minute, defender Collins took advantage of a corner kick to climb higher than the defense and test firmly in the right corner, with no chance for the Southampton striker.
In the second stage, the hosts continued to bet on the aerial balls, but they could not be effective. The visitors, in turn, raised their lines and pressured, but they stopped in the good performance of the goalkeeper Pope.
In the next round of the Premier League, Burnley welcome Wolves and Southampton visit Brighton. Both matches take place this Sunday at 10 am (BrasÃlia time).
