The Colombian Miguel Ángel López (Astana) was the winner of the fourth stage of the Tour of the Alps disputed between Villabassa and Kals am Grossglockner, 142.4 kmsafter which the Biscayan Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) continues as leader.
Lopez was the strongest in the final stretch of the race when 4 kilometers from the finish launched a powerful attack to try to neutralize Frenchman Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ), who had jumped out of the peloton 12 kilometers from the finish line and had reached a lead of 40 seconds.
López subtracted seconds from that difference at a constant pace and not only caught up with Pinot, but also left him behind; the French entered 7 seconds.
With this victory, the Colombian cyclist feels like a champion again 231 days after achieving victory in the eighteenth stage of the 2021 Vuelta a España.
Pello Bilbao lost the sprint he played with the Frenchman Romain Bardet (Team DSM) in search of third place and the 2 bonus seconds, but is still the leader of the general classification, now with only 2 seconds ahead of Bardet and 12 over the Hungarian Attila Valter (Groupama-FDJ).
Mikel Landa, eighth
The Alava Mikel Landa (Bahrain) was eighth in the stage, 15 seconds behind the winner, the same as Bilbao, and remains in eleventh place overall, 20 seconds behind the leader.
The Fifth stage It will start and finish in Lienz, with a 114.5-kilometer route and some slopes in the middle section.
