American journalist Philip Hersh in Twitter spoke about the performance of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva in the free program at the second stage of the Grand Prix series in Vancouver, Canada.
“Judges are people. They are fond of giving marks, watching Valieva’s performances. The judges’ overly generous assessments determined not just an obvious winner, but rather a staggering difference, ”said Hersh. He was puzzled that Valieva’s lead over her compatriot Elizaveta Tuktamysheva was 32 points, although the latter is in her best shape.
Valieva scored 265.08 points for two rentals at the Grand Prix. She set two world records: in the free skating program and in total points in women’s single skating. Previous records also belonged to her: she set them on October 10 at the Finlandia Trophy tournament in Espoo, Finland. This is Valieva’s first season at the adult level.
Tuktamysheva took the second place at the Canadian Grand Prix with 232.88 points. In third place is another Russian woman Alena Kostornaya, who scored 214.54 points.
