A foul he received in Qatar angered James Rodríguez: he would be punished with a financial fine and several suspension matches

Not even his own teammates were able to calm him down in his onslaught against referee Khalid Abdulla Nabet.

The disconcerted image of James Rodríguez in Al-Rayyan’s match against Al Arabi caused surprise. Very rarely has the Colombian been seen so upset against a referee and that such a reaction results in an expulsion.

Not even his own teammates were able to calm him down in his attack against referee Khalid Abdulla Nabet. Mark from Spain.

The problem may be – and surely will be – greater for the southpaw. The attitude that could be seen thanks to the television broadcast left him in evidence with several acts that could perfectly lead to a prolonged suspension, accompanied by an economic fine expressed in Qatari rials, which surely is not a big problem for the budgets that are handled there.

To know what James is exposed to after the event, you have to go to the rule. The Disciplinary Code of the Qatar Football Association 2021 22 outlines the sanctions in certain cases.

The section 3, corresponding to “Disorder in matches, competitions and Official Activities” talk about this. Article 48 deals with misconduct against match officials, within whom the referees classify.

If there is something that James needs to worry about right now, it is that what happened has left him exposed to any of the four sanctions contemplated in the regulation when someone faces against any of the referees in the games:

– Unsportsmanlike conduct: maximum suspension of four weeks or four games and a maximum fine of $ 27,464 (about 103 million Colombian pesos).

– Attempted physical assault (elbows, punches, kicks, etc.) to a match official: a maximum of 10 weeks of suspension or 10 matches and a fine of a maximum of $ 54,929 (about 206 million Colombian pesos). (D)
