Route and profile of stage 5 of the Tour of the Basque Country 2022: Zamudio – Mallabia (163.8 km)

A tremendously complicated route and with hardly any time to breathe, which the peloton will have to face in the fifth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country since the starting gun was fired in Zamudio and until arrival at Mallabia.

Good proof of this are the five ports that they will have to overcome along the route: Paresi (2nd category, 9 kilometers at 3.4% average), Bedarona (3rd category, 2.1 kilometers at 7.1% average), Gontzugaraigana (3rd category, 2.6 kilometers at 6.5% average) Trabakua (3rd category, 3.3 kilometers at 7.1% average) and karabieta (2nd category, 6.7 kilometers at 5.6% average).

There will be no first category climbs, but those five scoring ascents, and others that do not hold that rank, will involve a continuous slide that can turn the stage into a tremendously hard day, even more so if the rain makes an appearance.

The peloton will have one of the few flat sections once they have reached the last 30 kilometers of the day, between the towns of iurreta and Elorrio.

This day, like the third, will offer little reward to those who seek the ultimate triumph; but, on the contrary, the risk of being punished will be present at all times, so the general classification riders will have to be alert.

Also, to end the day, the goal of Mallabia He has a surprise in store for them: a short one, but explosive slope up to 16%.
