South American qualifiers: how do the teams get to the matches?

The South American qualifiers are planted in their last dates in search of the remaining quotas that make room to go to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. With only Brazil and Argentina ensuring their participation in the event, Ecuador has everything with it to play the international tournament. After the Tri, the fight will be in fourth and fifth place, where up to four teams are involved.

Uruguay, Peru, Chile and Colombia are in the competition for the two qualifying positions that will lead to the World Cup. The fourth is occupied by the charrúas with 22 pointsin fifth place that leads to the playoffs, Peru has 21. Chile and Colombia have 19 and 17 respectively, so the closing will be exciting.

Brazil

Those led by Tite are in first place in the standings and could close an almost perfect tie in this break as they have not yet known defeat. Their rivals will be Chile (at home) and Bolivia (as a visitor). Depending on the results, mathematically they could also be in second place after an impeccable phase in which they have led in South America.

Argentina

La Albiceleste has also had an almost impeccable phase in which Lionel Scaloni’s men have not lost any of their matches. In second place and four points behind Brazil, the whim would be to try to be first after sealing their place in Qatar. Argentina will face Venezuela (at home) and Ecuador (as a visitor) in this break.

Ecuador

The team led by Gustavo Alfaro needs only one point to be in the World Cup in Qatar. A dream that has been gaining greater form as the dates of the qualifiers have followed one another. Now, the Tri has it closer than ever and will play two games in which if they continue in line with what has been shown, they should seal their place in the international event (they have it 99% guaranteed). Their rivals will be Paraguay (as a visitor) and Argentina (at home).

Uruguay

Diego Alonso’s impact has been immediate on the Uruguayan team. After a bad run that put his World Cup options in doubt, the new cycle began with two victories that have given the national team a lot of air. In this break, they will seek to continue with the good feelings shown and close their presence to a World Cup that was almost far from their reach. The rivals will be Peru (at home) and Chile (as a visitor).

Peru

Ricardo Gareca’s men want to follow the ascending line that has allowed them to leave any questions behind and believe more than ever that Qatar is at the gates. With its options more open than ever, the Blanquirroja comes into this break with the best undefeated after the first three classified in the group. Four games that raise the morale of Peru to face two very important events. The rivals will be Uruguay (as a visitor) and Paraguay (at home).

Chile

La Roja has managed to get into the fight for the World Cup when it seemed more complicated. There are two points of difference with respect to fifth place, but Lasarte’s men surely arrive with the desire to close the gap. In addition, the national team has had the great news of the arrival of Ben Brereton at the last minute, who was doubtful and is a capital piece for his team. Their matches will be against Brazil (as a visitor) and Uruguay (at home).

Colombia

The poor results have led Colombia to have more doubts than ever about their World Cup chances. They do not depend on themselves, they do not have it easy, but as long as there are options they will be in the fight to achieve it. Despite having a very bad run of results behind them, they will close the knockout phase against two teams that have no chance of being in Qatar. The matches will be against Bolivia (at home) and Venezuela (as a visitor).

bolivia

La Verde in these instances is a rival that without options can be dangerous, especially at home, as always. With the top scorer of the phase (Marcelo Moreno Martins), César Farías’ team will seek to close the World Cup qualifiers with victories to face the future with hope for the young soccer players they have in the country. The rivals will be Colombia (as a visitor) and Brazil (at home).

Paraguay

With Berizzo things did not go well, and the first steps of Guillermo Barros Schelotto are not encouraging either. Behind them, Paraguay has the worst streak in the last five games between the South American teams, and without World Cup options, surely what La Albirroja is looking for is to close the qualifying phase against Qatar to face new challenges. The matches will be against Ecuador (at home) and Peru (as a visitor).

Venezuela

Everything that could go wrong for Venezuela, did go wrong. La Vinotinto initially faced these qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup with hopes of qualifying, and could end up in the last position of the group. The instability within the Federation and the selection has affected so that the best results have not been achieved. The best news, without a doubt, is the settled return of Salomón Rondón. He will play against Argentina (as a visitor) and Colombia (at home). (D)
