The IOC said that the redistribution of Lashmanova’s gold will not happen automatically
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) spoke about the details of the procedure for depriving athlete Elena Lashmanova of the gold medal of the 2012 Games in London. It is reported by TASS.
The IOC emphasized that the redistribution of medals does not occur automatically, but according to the principle proposed by the Athletes’ Commission and approved by the committee’s executive committee. It is noted that a disqualified athlete can appeal the decision, and only then the IOC approves the redistribution.
The removal of Lashmanova became known earlier on March 21. The athlete was disqualified for two years for violating anti-doping rules. The results of Lashmanova in the period from February 18, 2012 to January 3, 2014 were canceled. Thus, the athlete was deprived of the gold medals of the 2012 Games and the 2013 World Championships in athletics in race walking.
Due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules, the activity of the All-Russian Federation of Athletics in World Athletics was suspended in 2015. Restrictions do not allow Russian athletes to compete in international competitions without obtaining a neutral status.
