The cyclist Sonny Colbrellisecond classified in the first stage of the Return to Catalonia ending in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, was transferred to the Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona “in stable condition,” according to his team, the Bahrain Victoriousafter losing consciousness when crossing the finish line and having needed a heart massage.

The team’s statement reports that “Colbrelli lost consciousness after the sprint” and that “he was transferred” to the hospital “in stable condition” to investigate “his condition more thoroughly.”

The 31-year-old Italian fainted after making an intense uphill sprint with the Australian Michael Matthews, winner of the stage. He was quickly treated by medical assistance, who managed to revive him, and an ambulance took him to the hospital.
