ARAF will not appeal to CAS on the removal of Russian athletes from tournaments
Acting President of the All-Russian Federation of Athletics (VFLA) Irina Privalova commented on the removal of domestic athletes from international tournaments under the auspices of World Athletics. Her words are quoted by RT.
She stated that ARAF would not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). “We are considering the option of contacting CAS later if we do not find understanding from World Athletics on the points and issues that have now been outlined in front of them,” Privalova said. She emphasized that the ARAF requires the international association to separate the political background of the suspension of athletes from the technical aspects of restoring the federation.
On March 1, World Athletics refused to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions. Thus, the athletes will miss the World Championships in the USA, the World Indoor Championships in Serbia and the World Race Walking Championships in Oman.
ARAF’s membership in World Athletics was suspended in 2015 due to persistent anti-doping rule violations. Restrictions do not allow Russian athletes to compete in international competitions without obtaining a neutral status.
