RBU will appeal to CAS in case of deprivation of membership in the International Biathlon Union
The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) promised to challenge in court the decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) to remove the national federation. The commentary of RBU President Viktor Maigurov is available on the organization’s YouTube channel.
“Today, there is no reason, in accordance with the IBU constitution, for which we could be suspended,” Maigurov said. He stressed that this is an illogical and legally unfounded situation. The head of the RBU added that the federation will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in case of deprivation of membership in the IBU.
Earlier on March 17, it became known that the IBU began the procedure for the removal of the RBU and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation. The national federations have been informed of the decision and have seven days to respond to it. At the end of this period, the Board will issue a final verdict, which will immediately take effect.
On February 26, Russian biathletes refused to participate in the final stages of the World Cup. This decision was made after the decision of the IBU, according to which the Russians and Belarusians must act as neutral athletes. The SBR expressed dissatisfaction with the deprivation of the athletes of the flag and anthem.
