Indoor sports in Belgrade will be remembered by fans not only because of the sports competition. The organizers do their best to make more information about their controversial behavior. Justyna ¦wiêty-Ersetic had problems, she wanted and finally showed support for Ukraine.
The Serbs did not want to allow the Polish woman to take part. She had ribbons in the colors of Ukraine in her hair
The Polish Olympic champion in the mixed relay race from Tokyo wanted to start on a track with ribbons in her hair in the colors of Ukraine. – We don’t want a war in the world. You have to talk about it loud! – she confessed in an interview with TVP Sport. The problem was that the organizers did not want to allow her to start because of this symbol.
– Before leaving the treadmill, the volunteers drew my attention to blue and yellow ribbons. They said I absolutely can’t go out with them. They added: “You will definitely not run in these colors. I looked and asked: why? Fortunately, another volunteer appeared a moment later and waved his hand at it. He allowed me to start, I ran in them” – she said .
Earlier, the Serbs decided which independence they do not recognize. This was what happened after one of the 1500 meters runs in which the only one of the two millionth European country – Gresa Bakraqi – started. The Kosovo flag was also not included on the official World Athletics website in the tournament results. The Olympic Committee of Kosovo published a post on Twitter in which it condemned the lack of the country’s flag at the European Championships in Belgrade.
Interestingly, a few days earlier, the world athletics authorities assured that there would be no similar situations in Belgrade. – The Organizing Committee of Belgrade and the Kosovo Athletics Federation have worked together to ensure that the Kosovar athlete can compete without tension. All parties agreed that Kosovo would be presented with the three-letter country code (KOS), says “Inside the Games”.
