The US State Department demanded access to the American basketball player Greiner arrested in Russia
The US State Department demanded to provide consular access to the American basketball player Brittney Griner arrested in Moscow. AP reports.
The State Department said they are in close contact with Greiner’s lawyers. The department said they insist on providing access to American citizens detained in Russia.
On March 18, former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton expressed her support for Greiner and demanded her release. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee also called for the release of the basketball player from prison.
Greiner was arrested on March 5, the American was detained at the capital’s airport. She was charged with drug smuggling.
Greiner has been performing in Russia since 2015, defending the colors of the UMMC from Yekaterinburg. The American has won Olympic gold twice.
