Benzema should miss Real Madrid in the derby against Barcelona

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema should miss the merengue club in the derby against Barcelona, which takes place this Sunday at 17:00 (Brasília time). The player is still not fully recovered from his left thigh injury and will be preserved in the match, according to information from the AS newspaper.

The intention of the Spaniards is to count on the Frenchman in the decisive duel against Chelsea, for the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The match will start on April 6, at 16:00 (Brasília time), in London.

There was optimism on the part of Real Madrid in having Benzema in this Sunday’s classic, but, in tests carried out this Saturday, it was diagnosed that the athlete was not 100% recovered and the club’s decision was not to force him.

The striker should return next Saturday, when the team faces Celta de Vigo, for the Spanish Championship, aiming to regain his physical shape for the decision against the English. The player will also not represent the France national team. Despite the call-up, he will be spared and will not enter the field in friendlies against Ivory Coast and South Africa.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti understands Benzema’s presence in the main matches of the season as fundamental. Recently, the Frenchman has become the club’s top scorer in all of history.
