IBU Secretary General Karlsson said that Russian biathletes could be suspended for several years
The Secretary General of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Niklas Karlsson said that the suspension of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) could last several years. His words are quoted by NRK.
“It is very important that we reacted to what happened in this way. There are different levels of sanctions that we can apply, and now we have decided to do it at the highest level,” Karlsson said. He stressed that while the decision will not have serious financial consequences for the IBU, however, the organization did not calculate the prospects for many years.

On March 17, the IBU announced that it was starting the procedure for the removal of the RBU and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation. National federations have seven days to respond to the IBU’s decision. After this period, the executive committee will adopt a final verdict, which will immediately take effect.
On March 2, the IBU banned the Russians from participating in international competitions. The decision was made by the executive committee of the organization.
