Gladbach-Bochum game stopped after assistant was hit by cup

This Friday, the game between Borussia Monchengladbach and Bochum, valid for the 27th round of the German Championship, was stopped. The decision was taken at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion after a glass, thrown from the stands, hit one of the referee’s assistants.

In the 23rd minute of the second half, Christian Gittelmannn was hit by a glass of beer, which came from Bochum fans and hit him on the back of the head. Even without major physical consequences at the moment, the linesman left the field towards the locker room and the game was interrupted.

Later, the Bundesliga took an official stance, announcing that the match was abandoned and “more information will be published over time”.

through the Twitter, Borussia spoke out about the aggression, describing it as an “unacceptable action”. Bochum, in turn, reiterated the message, mentioning the word “idiot” several times on the social network: “Incredibly stupid and irresponsible behavior, which has no place in a stadium”.

Regarding the football played, Monchengladbach was winning 2-0 before the stoppage. The goals came at the beginning of the second period: Alassane Plea opened the scoring in the tenth and, six minutes later, Breel Embolo scored the second.

Borussia return to the pitch on April 3, after the FIFA Date, when they host Mainz. Bochum, meanwhile, visit Hoffenheim the day before.
