Rene Fasel may be stripped of the post of honorary president of the IIHF in case of cooperation with the KHL
The honorary president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) René Fasel wanted to be deprived of his post. Heikki Hietanen, member of the board of the organization, told Ilta-Sanomat about this.
He explained that the issue of the possible removal of Fasel from his post is being discussed by the organization. “I don’t think he will even come to Finland for the World Cup,” Hietanen added.
Earlier, Fasel commented on the information about cooperation with the Continental Hockey League (KHL). He stated that he did not sign a contract with the organization, but had been in regular contact with the league for several months. Fasel explained this with a desire to help players in a difficult situation.
Swiss Fasel led the IIHF from 1994 to 2021. He is also a member of the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee.
