President Putin called the removal of Russians from the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing the height of cynicism
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the height of cynicism the removal of Russian athletes from the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
“Not just innocent athletes suffered, but Paralympic athletes, people who did not break down, but overcame the most difficult life tests worthy of worldwide support and admiration,” the head of state said. He noted that by their example, Paralympic athletes give hope to millions, make them believe in themselves and their strengths.
Putin called the use of collective responsibility a heavy blow to the Olympic movement. “All this leads not only to the loss of authority and independence of organizations important for the development of the global dispute, but also to the violation of the norms of the Olympic Charter, including the key thesis that the Games are not a competition of countries, but of athletes,” he stressed.
Earlier, Putin criticized the removal of Russian athletes from participation in international competitions. “This is such a sport outside of politics,” the head of state said, commenting on the sanctions against athletes.
