CAS upholds ban on Russian clubs and national teams from participating in FIFA tournaments
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA), which banned Russian clubs and teams from participating in tournaments under its auspices. On Friday, March 18, TASS reports.
CAS considered the appeal of the Russian Football Union (RFU), which the organization filed on March 7.
Thus, the national team will not play with the Polish national team in the qualifying play-off match for the World Cup in Qatar. Initially, the meeting was scheduled for March 24 and was to be held in Moscow.
At the end of February, many international sports organizations began to remove Russians from tournaments. In some disciplines, such as football, hockey, cross-country skiing and biathlon, athletes are completely disqualified. In motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, Russians can continue playing in a neutral status.
