Xabier Mikel Azparren (Euskaltel-Euskadi) achieved victory in the second stage of the Vuelta al Alentejo that was disputed between Beja and Portel of 187.7 kilometers, and became the leader of the race.
The Basque cyclist reached the final meters with a slight advantage over the peloton, and together with Tiago Machado (Rádio Popular – Paredes – Boavista), whom he overtook in the sprint to win. The peloton crossed the finish line seven seconds behind Azparren and Machadoheaded by the until today leader Orluis Aular (Rural Fund – RGA Insurance).
The general classification is headed by Xabier Mikel Azparrenwith a 3 second advantage over Orluis Aular (second) and 6 seconds on Tiago Machado (third). Iker Ballarin (Euskaltel-Euskadi) is in fifth place, 13 seconds behind of the leader.
