RBU President Maygurov called the IBU decision politically biased and unlawful
The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) appreciated the decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) to start the procedure for the removal of the national federation. The commentary of RBU President Viktor Maigurov is available on the organization’s Telegram channel.
“The RBU considers the decision of the IBU politically biased and illegal, this is real discrimination on a national basis,” he said and added that this violates the fundamental principles of Olympism.
Maigurov noted that neither the RBU as a temporary member of the IBU, nor the Russian athletes and coaches violated any provisions of the Constitution of the international federation. “The RBU will prepare a reasoned response from the IBU in due time, although we are aware that the decision regarding our federation has already been made,” he stressed.
Earlier on March 17, it became known that the IBU began the procedure for the removal of the RBU and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation. The national federations have been informed of the decision and have seven days to respond to it. At the end of this period, the Board will issue a final verdict, which will immediately take effect.
