Russian athletes asked ARAF to give World Athletics an ultimatum
Russian athletes have turned to the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) with a demand to issue an ultimatum to World Athletics. It is reported by “Match TV”.
Athletes sent a letter to the ARAF, signed by 44 out of 55 athletes. In it, the leadership of the federation asked to apply to the president of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, with a demand to ensure guarantees for the admission of Russians with a neutral status to performances in the summer international season. The head of the ARAF, as noted in the letter, must indicate that if they refuse to comply with the requirement, the organization will suspend the restoration process and apply to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
On March 1, World Athletics imposed sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes, removing them from participation in international competitions. Thus, domestic athletes will not be able to compete at the 2022 World Championships in the USA in July, the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade and the World Race Walking Championships.
ARAF was suspended in 2015 due to persistent anti-doping rule violations. Restrictions do not allow Russian athletes to compete in international competitions without obtaining a neutral status.
