Oyvind Vatterdal considers his departure from the NOC of Norway due to the removal of the Russians justified
Oyvind Vatterdal, who left the National Olympic Committee (NOC), commented on the decision to leave the organization. It is reported by “Match TV”.
Vatterdahl admitted that he considers his act justified, as he received a lot of good feedback. He openly opposed the suspension of any athletes. In his opinion, in the case of the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes, members of the NOC of Norway behaved like politicians.
Earlier, Russian skier and Olympic champion Veronika Stepanova supported Waterdal. She called his decision to leave the Norwegian NOC a strong step. The Norwegian announced his resignation from his post on March 14.
On March 2, Norway supported the disqualification of Russian and Belarusian athletes, but called for the admission of juniors and children to tournaments. In their opinion, mass sports in Russia should not stop developing.
