Skier Stepanova called the departure of a member of the NOC of Norway Vatterdal because of the Russians a strong step
The 2022 Olympic relay champion, skier Veronika Stepanova, in her Telegram channel, appreciated the resignation of the Deputy Chairman of the Norwegian Olympic Committee, Oyvind Vatterdal, due to the recommendation to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from international tournaments.
The athlete called the decision of the NOC member a strong step. “I am glad that not everyone in Norway supports the illegal and immoral decision to exclude Russian athletes solely on the basis that we are Russians,” she wrote. Stepanova added that she appreciates Vatterdahl’s decision.

Vatterdahl announced his resignation from his post earlier on March 14. He stressed that the sanctions against Russia are contrary to his values and the notion that sport should not be associated with politics.
On March 2, Norway stated that it supported the disqualification of Russian and Belarusian athletes, but called for juniors and children to be admitted to tournaments. In their opinion, mass sports should develop in Russia.
On February 28, the IOC called for the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions. After that, most sports federations of the world refused to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in tournaments.
