Deputy Chairman of the Norwegian Olympic Committee Vatterdal resigned due to the removal of the Russians
Deputy Chairman of the Norwegian Olympic Committee Oyvind Vatterdal announced his resignation due to the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from international tournaments. It is reported by NRK.
The official explained the resignation by the fact that he does not want to be associated with this decision. He stressed that the sanctions against Russia are contrary to his values and the notion that sport should not be associated with politics. “I am doing this in my conscience in order to stand up for my Russian colleagues and in the future be able to look them in the eye,” Vatterdal summed up.
