Member of the European Parliament called the suspension of Russian athletes racism

MEP from the party “Alternative for Germany” Kristin Anderson made a speech and spoke about the removal of Russian athletes from international tournaments. Her words are given on the website of the representative body.

Anderson called sanctions against Russians in the field of culture and sports racism. “Political leaders are leading us straight into tribal societies with their statements. A real shame,” she said. The MP drew attention to the fact that, according to the Charter of Human Rights, should not be infringed because of origin, race or political views.

Earlier in March, the head coach of the club of the English Premier League (EPL) Tottenham, Antonio Conte, called the decision to remove the Russians sad and unfair. He stressed that Russian athletes are doing a great job to compete.

On February 28, the International Olympic Committee called for the non-admission of Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. The executive committee of the organization motivated the recommendation by the desire to ensure the protection of the honesty of the competitions and the safety of their participants. After that, most of the sports federations of the world refused to allow the Russians to the tournaments.
