The head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin supported the expansion of the RPL
The head coach of the Russian national team and Rostov Valery Karpin expressed his opinion about the possible expansion of the Russian Premier League (RPL). This is reported by the Bookmaker Rating.
The 53-year-old expert pointed out that the isolation of Russian football creates a shortage of matches for domestic clubs. Karpin concluded that the RPL needs to increase the number of games. In his opinion, 30 rounds in the current calendar is not enough.
“These matches can be played in six months, and the rest of the time the players will just be paid money,” summed up Karpin. He supported the idea of increasing the number of matches by expanding the league.
Due to the sanctions of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA), the Russian national football team lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team had to play in the play-offs for reaching the World Cup. In addition, Russian clubs cannot participate in European competitions.
