The premier league announced this Saturday that has stripped Roman Abramovich of his position as owner of Chelsea after the sanctions imposed this week by the British Government.
“Behind the Imposition of sanctions by the UK Government, the Premier League Board has disqualified Roman Abramovich as director of Chelsea Football Club,” the entity said in a statement.
“The decision of the Premier will have no impact on the club’s ability to continue training and playing matches, as dictated by the permit received by the Government until May 31,” the Premier said in a statement.
As announced by the Government last Thursday, Abramovich’s assets are frozenso the English club cannot generate any kind of income through ticket sales, merchandise and by player operations.
The Premier does leave the door open for the club to change owners in the coming days, despite the fact that the government sanction does not allow it.

“The disqualification of an owner normally implies the sale of its shareholding. Roman Abramovich has already publicly declared his intention to sell Chelsea and the process has started. Under the current circumstances, the sale of a club is not allowed. However, we understand that the Government is open to granting a license that allows the club to be sold”, adds the Premier’s statement. (D)
